What makes essential fatty acids (EFAs) essential? They’re referred to as essential, because the body cannot produce these types of fat on its own, so obtaining them from dietary sources is key. EFA’s play many crucial roles in the body, exerting influence over mood, energy, belly  fat, brain function and memory. Thus, EFA rich foods are part of the cornerstone of Dr. Perricone’s anti inflammatory diets.

Some of the most essential fatty acid rich foods are:

  • Avocados
  • Cold water fish
  • Olive oil
  • Coconut
  • Raw nuts

  1. Has there been any unbiased research on the health effects of (virgin) coconut oil? For every website I find that extols the wonders of coconut oil, I find another that slams it for being chock-full of saturated fat. Thanks!

  2. I absolutely love all of the above foods. I have been known to knock out 1/2 a jar of spanish olives in 0.5 seconds. I’d have to say my ultimate essential fatty acid rich favorite food is the olive.
