Tried + Tested: Dr. Perricone’s 3-Day Diet

by

Last week, one of the bloggers on the Sephora Team over at Beauty and the Blog tried the Perricone 3-Day Facelift Diet and posted her results on the blog. Read more about her experience and see pictures of her meals:

It might have been the unofficial tagline “a facelift in the fridge.”
…the diet’s short 3-day duration
…the improvement in mood and memory
…the rumored boost in sex drive
or, the fact that every product we’ve ever tried from Dr. Perricone delivers on its promises—without fail.

It was all of the above, plus my masochistic love of restricted diets. I will try any diet at least once. So, I canceled on a bbq, threw out my leftover wine, and headed to the fish market, for Dr. Perricone’s infamous salmon diet. It’s salmon, twice a day, for three days, and generous servings of eggs and greens.

This is a regimen that lets you eat…a lot. In fact, I’ve never been on one that has allowed me to consume so much, and technically still be “on a diet.” There are a few rules. No coffee, no alcohol, no dairy, and no root vegetables, i.e. carbs. Fortunately, caffeine, in the form of green tea, is permitted. In addition to three full meals, the diet allows for snacking (even before bedtime) on nuts, berries, or yogurt. You can find a sample menu at Dr. Perricone’s site here.

If you’re thinking to yourself variety is the spice of life, and you can’t do salmon twice a day for the sake of your joie de vivre, you’ll have to remember a. to lighten up. It’s just three days. And b., you can improvise recipes as long as you meet the diet’s guidelines. Being a vet of many spa diets myself, I rearranged my omega-3′s, fatty acids, and leafy greens to suit my tastes. For breakfast, I made a scramble, an omelet, and a frittata. And, I planned six variations of salmon to keep it interesting (see examples of what I ate above).

And, yes, I noticed results within two days. My skin—not just my face but all over—had a soft sheen. Gone was the puffiness and upon some scrutiny in front of my bathroom mirror, my cheekbones actually looked more pronounced. My husband, the unwilling accomplice to all my nutritional experiments, saw smoother skin around his usually leathery eyes, and a healthy tan like he had just been on vacation and had sensibly worn his SPF.

Another bonus benefit came from my co-worker, Heather, who reported she slept better, possibly due to the reduction of caffeine in her diet. She also had more energy later in the day.

The conclusion: We’re converts of Dr. Perricone’s diet and plan on sprinkling it throughout the year whenever we want to recalibrate our system, debloat, and get enviably gorgeous skin.

Have you tried Dr. Perricone’s 3-Day Diet?

  1. I have damaged my skin big time (face especially). I am from Calif.was a 60′s teenager when Iodine & baby oil was popular for a sunburn (opps I meant suntan) Blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin, although I look like I have a permanent tan. Years later, I am 61, I need a real facial skin tranformation….What would you suggest?

    • Hi Suzie. In addition to following the anti inflammatory diet, we suggest starting with Cold Plasma morning and evening followed by the High Potency Collection layered over the Cold Plasma. The High Potency Collection contains restorative antioxidants that will help to diminish the signs of sun damage and encourage cell turnover that tends to slow with age and environmental damage. Layer the High Potency Amine Face Lift over Cold Plasma in the mornings and follow with a moisturizer and SPF. In the evenings, apply Cold Plasma and follow with the HP Evening Repair and moisturizer appropriate for your skin type. 2. I’m in my early 30′s. I suffered severe acne from 12 to 22 years old at which point I took Acutane and rid myself of the problem. Unfortunately, I was left with moderate (severe in places) acne scars. My skin is moderately porous, and I’m starting to see fine wrinkles around my eyes. My forehead lines are prominent as well, as are the lines on either side of my mouth. And my skin tone is not entirely even. What should I be doing to combat all of those things….? I’m looking into taking Perricone’s top 10 supplements, as well as trying the anti-inflammatory diet. What else would you recommend? Thanks much in advance for your reply!!

    • Hi Jim. Congratulations for embracing the anti inflammatory diet and supplements- this will help your skin tremendously! To refine the appearance of your skin using topicals, cleanse with the Glycolic Bar morning and night. In the mornings, apply the Advanced Face Firming Activator and in the evening, use the HP Evening Repair. These two treatments will help to diminish the pigmentation issues along with the surface irregularities, using a combination of nutrients including alpha lipoic acid, glycolic acid and retinol. To help reduce the fine lines around your eyes, apply Cold Plasma Eye, morning and evening. • It depends on your weghit. If you only have a few pounds to lose, like 10-15, then it’ll take longer to lose that amount than if you have over 20 pounds to lose. With the HCG drops, I’m guessing you could lose 7 pounds easy. More if you’re really strict while on the VLCD. Remember you only eat 500 calories a day, no sugar (nor fake sugars like splenda), 200 grams of meat total, 2 fruits, and 1 bread thing. If you want to lose the weghit faster, you may want to cut out the bread stick and 1 of the fruits. Honestly, I started these drops 4 days ago (2 days of Phase 1, and now I’m on my second day of Phase 2) and I just got on the scale a few minutes ago and I lost 5 pounds in 1 day! But I have quite a bit of weghit to lose so that won’t be the results for everyone. If you exercise at least 30 minutes a day also, you could lose even more than 10 pounds a week. Also, I haven’t been hungry on this diet. The drops help soo much! Good luck and have fun in N. Carolina!
