Beauty Secrets- Salmon for Picky Eaters

by

Today’s guest blogger, Jeni, is a homeschooling mother of 5 with a passion for teaching Moms how to nurture and inspire their children.  She discovered Perricone MD after years of working in the beauty industry as a makeup artist and saw first-hand how Dr. Perricone’s three-tiered approach transforms both skin and health.

Did you know that eating wild salmon can help to increase attention span and ability to focus (thank you DMAE and Omega 3’s!)? Unfortunately, getting kids to enjoy salmon can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. Believe it or not, canned wild salmon is now my 2-year-old son’s favorite food. In fact, Justus even has a special salmon dance:

Here are 3 secrets to get picky eaters to enjoy salmon:

Call in the Authorities: When I learn the benefits of salmon, I am more compelled to eat it, and children are no different. Teach toddlers that salmon “makes you big and strong” and educate older children on the benefits of Omega 3’s. Dr Perricone is quoted often at our table!

Sweeten the Deal: For superior taste and nutrition, buy Wild Alaskan Sockeye and pair with a tasty marinade, playing up your child’s favorite ingredients (honey, maple syrup, citrus). Then grill it for the extra flavor kids love.

Coin a Catchphrase: A memorable, rhythmic phrase keeps things fun while enforcing the rules. We say, “I’ll try one bite until I like it,” which reminds my children that tastes eventually change when you keep trying with an open mind. If you hear “Yuck!” over a salmon dish, say, “No slammin’ the salmon!” to remind everyone to keep their words positive.

Tomorrow I’ll share our family’s recipe for Grilled Maple Orange Salmon to get you started.

Does your family enjoy fish? Which types does your family enjoy the most?

  2. These are great tips! Although my “little one” is 16, it’s still great to read ideas on how to enjoy salmon, which isn’t one of my faves. But reading your post and seeing the little salmon dance, I may give this highly beneficial fish another try. Looking forward to the recipe.

    • Hi, Cindy! I’m so sorry I haven’t responded to this sooner! I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. Actually, I am a baby blogger – just starting out. There’s almost no content up on my blog at this point, in fact! If you would like to take a look, it’s at tamingtinuviel.com. My *goal* is to begin posting frequently in the next few weeks once I get the basic info up and ready. Thank you so much for your kind words!

  3. That is just too sweet! It kind of reminds me of when my son told me that Daddy’s fish was MUCH better than Mommy’s chicken when we were dining out.
