Sun-Kissed: Keeping Lips Protected

by

When starting your summer skincare routine, make sure you take steps to protect your lips from sun damage.  Soft, supple lips are a sign of both beauty and healthy. However, many people suffer from chronic, dry, arid climates and overexposure to the sun can cause dry, chapped or cracked lips.  Be sure to keep lips hydrated and use a lip product with protection from UVA/UVB damage and apply often.  Lip balms and sunscreens deplete even faster than sunscreens on the skin, and need to be replenished frequently for effective protection.

Of equal importance is staying well hydrated.  Keep a bottle of pure water handy so that you can moisturize your skin and lips from the inside out—this is very important in the winter as well as the summer, because dry, overheated air can dehydrate the skin.  As we age, our cells ability to retain moisture diminishes, making it even more important to drink 8 – 10 glasses of water a day.
