Building Strength Through Yoga: Bridge Pose

by

Yoga is a great way to build overall strength. The Bridge Pose is incorporated into many of the Forever Young yoga sequences, including the ones focusing on Core Strength.

Bridge Pose

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor with your heels close to your pelvis.
  2. Lengthen your neck, roll your shoulders back, and let your sternum gently lift up.
  3. Press into your inner heels as you raise your pelvis off the floor.
  4. Roll your shoulders into the floor again, lacing your hands beneath you on the mat.
  5. Lengthen your tailbone toward the back of your knees, maintaining length in your spine.
  6. Keep drawing your tailbone away from you as you press your feet down.  Notice the rebound effect of receiving energy as you press into the floor with your feet and the back of your shoulders.
  7. Remain in the pose for ten breaths, observing how each inhale extends the pose and each exhale takes you deeper within.

What yoga poses do you use to strengthen your core?
