Start Fresh: Yogurt Does a Belly Good

by

We intuitively know that real food sources of nutrients are always best. Not surprisingly, a recent clinical trial illustrates that the greatest weight loss benefits from calcium are derived from eating dairy products versus taking supplemental calcium.

The results speak for themselves:

You’ll lose more weight- Participants who ate yogurt lost approximately 10 pounds of fat versus the 6 pounds lost by the group who took supplemental calcium.

You’ll lose more weight from the belly- The yogurt eating participants saw their waist measurements reduced by more than an inch and a half versus the loss of only a quarter of an inch from the group that took supplemental calcium.

Additionally, 60% of the yogurt eater’s weight loss was visceral belly fat from the abdominal region, which is an especially dangerous type of fat to store in the body, and the hardest to lose. These fat cells are especially toxic and release pro-inflammatory messenger chemicals called cytokines that are harmful for overall health and can disrupt normal weight management.

How do you incorporate dairy into your diet?

    • Look for unsweetened greek yogurt. It tends to have the lowest sugar content. Also, for maximum calcium absorption, look for reduced fat as opposed to non fat varieties.

    • Hi Aggie. There have been many studies that suggest consuming probiotic rich foods such as yogurt and kefir reduce belly fat. Pick up Forever Young for more information.

  1. My diet of choice for 2+ years has
    been greatly influenced by the
Paleo Diet which is very similar
    to Dr. Perricone’s. However,Dr.Loren Cordain
    (author of The Paleo Diet)recommends
    avoiding all diary products.
My reduction of belly fat was significant with this diet, with little or no yogurt or any other diary products. I would appreciate knowing your opinion
    considering Dr. Cordain believes
    diary products are actually
    detrimental to good health. Thanks.

  2. I get raw unpasturised yogurt from a good clean source. It does have the fat in it though. Is this harmfull?
It is absolutely delicious and nothing added eg sugar.
    I live in NZ
