Start Fresh: Cobra Pose

by

Yoga links breath to the movements of the body, requiring you to focus on the moment.  As each movement matches your breath, your mind quiets, allowing you to delve deeper into yourself.  The Cobra pose (outlined below) is a common pose used in the Sun Salutation and is part of the Forever Young Core Strength sequence, which helps strengthen the lower back and improve core strength.

Cobra Pose

  1. Lie prone on your mat.
  2. Extend your legs back.
  3. Place your hands on the floor beneath your shoulders and draw the elbows toward your sides.
  4. Press your thighs, your hips, and the tops of your feet firmly into the mat.
  5. Extend your arms to raise your chest off the floor.
  6. Draw your tailbone toward your pubis as you gently lengthen your spine.
  7. Remain in the pose for five to ten breaths.
