Yoga is one of the few exercise programs that requires you to be both soft and strong. The Yoga Sutra, an ancient text on yoga, refers to sthira sukham asanam, which suggests that each pose should be both steady and comfortable. A pose as simple as Downward-Facing Dog requires you to be fully present in your body yet soft in breath and mind. There are layers of awareness in each pose, and with each practice you have the opportunity to balance the opposites of soft and strong. This learning to deal with opposing forces can reach beyond your yoga practice into all aspects of your life.
What aspects of yoga do you apply to your every day life?
