Dr. Perricone Discusses: Ageless Beauty

by

A friend called recently to urge me to turn on the Oprah show as the topic was ‘Aging Beauty.’  This story reminded me that I’ve been embracing this philosophy my entire career.

Setting the Record Straight

Often I have used the terms ‘anti-aging’ in my books and television appearances.  This term is frequently misconstrued because we know that we can’t stop aging.  What we can do is age well.  And so, yes, I am an anti-aging advocate when aging means facing our later years sick, depressed, weak and lacking in the joie de vivre of youth.

But when it comes to the greater wisdom, compassion and spirituality that often accompanies us as we age, then in that case, you might say I am actually “pro-aging.”

My goal is to help people live life to its most vibrant, longest and fullest state possible.  To be strong and healthy, so that we can share the years of knowledge and insight we have gained for the benefit of others.  For example, a physician who has seen thousands of patients over two or three decades is far more qualified to diagnose and treat a patient that a new med school graduate.  But if that seasoned physician’s mental or physical attributes are compromised through the so-called ‘normal’ aging process, his or her years of experience become a moot point.

I believe that we owe it to ourselves, our families, our communities, our world to stay well, strong, vital and healthy with each passing year.

I also believe that true beauty is radiant health at any age and is not a gift reserved for or exclusive to, the young.  It is our birthright and fortunately today we have a great many safe, natural, nutritional strategies that will help us to achieve and maintain the goal of happy and healthy aging.

How do you maintain your goal of happy and healthy aging?
