Forever Young: The Saturated Fat You Should Eat Every Day
Coconut oil is a superfood I have incorporated into my own diet. I am certain you have heard the dire warnings about saturated fats, but they are not to be confused with the trans fats in processed foods. Saturated fats constitute 50 percent of our cells’ membranes, the phospholipid component of every cell. They strengthen the cell walls, protecting the inside of the cell. They play a vital role in the health of our bones, protect the liver from alcohol and other toxins, and ensure the proper use of the omega-3 fatty acids.
Virgin coconut oil is a medium-chain saturated fat (MCFA) that speeds weight loss, lowers cholesterol, reduces the risk of heart attacks, and improves diabetic conditions. MCFAs do not need the liver and gallbladder to digest them, which means instant energy and increased metabolic rate through thermogenesis. Coconut oil is beneficial to the immune system, because it has antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Coconut oil targets the thyroid and beefs up the metabolism, melting away abdominal fat quickly. With all these benefits, organic virgin coconut oil is a powerful nutrient that should be incorporated into your diet.
Tip: Adding organic virgin coconut oil to green tea is an easy and tasty way to incorporate this nutrient into your daily routine.

Can you just eat raw coconut instead of the oil?
Raw coconut is also wonderful to incorporate into diets!
I keep reading about the benefits of coconut oil.
- It is the best oil to cook on medium/ high heat
- It is fantastic for your hair
Thanks Doc, this is now officially on my shopping list.
BTW: I saw your book at Indigo, and it was the last copy left, congratulations!
Those of us in the raw food world are big proponents of coconut oil. I have a dessert cookbook that uses coconut oil instead of butter in all the recipes!
It was so fantastic to see you on GMA this morning talking about the benefits of it. I am a big fan.
Warm Regards,
Susan
I started using it as an anti microbial as part of an anti candida diet. If you’ve IBS, check it out. It works and now I use it to cook everything. My LDL/HDl’s are only in the 70′s.
I’m allergic to coconut, with what food can I replace it?
We suggest you try almond milk and raw almond butter as a substitute in light of your allergy.
I’m wondering if you can take fish oil instead? Or combine taking fish oil and coconut oil? Is one better than the other? I’m looking for skin benefits for acne primarily. Thanks.
Your best option would be both. They offer different types of fats- both highly beneficial for health and beauty. Make sure to incorporate extra zinc in your diet to cut down on breakouts!
