Forever Young: More Reasons to Eat Chia

by

Although chia seeds are relatively new to the world food market, they are fast becoming a staple food for ultra marathon runners.  Because of their high soluble fiber content, chia seeds form a hydrophilic colloidal suspension (gel) in water and slowly release their nutrient content and water into the digestive tract for absorption and utilization over extended periods of time.  This provides an even and sustained source of nutrition, hydration, and energy for the body as the gel passes through the digestive tract, an attribute that makes them highly valued as an endurance food.

Tip: Add chia seeds to your diet on days where you are going on a long run or working out for an extended period of time.

  1. For the same reasons as stated in the article, I think chia seeds are a great choice before sleep. I’ve noticed that I have deeper more restful REM sleep when I have a tablespoon or two of chia seeds before bed. I assume the slow release of nutrients has this affect. Can’t wait for Forever Young to be released! Thanks Dr. Perricone!
