Forever Young: Chocolate, an Antioxidant Powerhouse

by

By weight, cocoa has more antioxidants than blueberries, green tea or red wine.  Chocolate and cocoa protect the cardiovascular system, significantly reducing the incidence of atherosclerosis.  Chocolate is also similar to the blueberry in that it affords protection to our brain.  For optimum health benefits and enjoyment, choose extra dark chocolate – at least 70-85% cocoa content.  Also, choose non-Dutched cocoa, as the process of alkalinization or “Dutching” cocoa significantly reduces the amount of flavanols in cocoa.

  1. Hello,
I was well into my first week of the anti-inflammation diet and was feeling amazing.. I had all my supplements and my freezer was stocked with wild alaskan salmon. The first week I lost eight pounds and the bloating was gone!!. My husband, son and I went on a hike in the woods and I slipped on a wet rock and broke my fibula and tore a tendon in my ankle. I have surgery tomorrow and am looking at 6-10 weeks to heal.. I wonder if you have any links or articles for someone in my situation. I intend to follow the dietary guidelines but am concerned about the inactivity I am facing. Any help or encouragement would help a lot! I love all of your books!! Thank You,
    Jacquie

  2. Well then I should be in perfect health. I eat A LOT of chocolate =) I’ve been eating the endangered species 88% extreme dark chocolate. Is that a good one to eat?
