Stretch Yourself

The best time to stretch is after a workout when the muscles are warm.  After you’ve completed your aerobics and weight training workouts, take time to stretch out the muscles you’ve been training.  This will relax the muscles that have tightened during the workout by drawing blood to them.  Increased blood to the area helps to remove toxins that have built up during exercise.

This stretch opens up and relaxes the lower back.

Lower Back Stretch

Starting position:
Lie on your back on a bench or floor.

Movement:
Gently hug your knees into your chest.  In this position, think about your lower back opening up. Hold for a count of 10.  Remember: Stretch, not strain.
