Baby Bumps

As we know, hormones can have a profound effect on acne.  So it’s not surprising that blemishes can become an issue during the intense hormonal fluctuations that occur during pregnancy.  The challenge in controlling acne during pregnancy is that many of the treatments often prescribed to clear up skin are not recommended for pregnant or nursing women.  If you’re having trouble with your skin during pregnancy, we recommend you speak to your doctor about following an anti-inflammatory diet.  Oftentimes, this can help alleviate acne without posing a threat to the developing fetus.  Acne flare-ups are quite common during the first trimester of pregnancy but fortunately, skin usually clears by the second or third trimester.  But to be aware that acne can flare back up again 2-3 months after delivery as a result of further hormonal changes.   While this can be frustrating, just be thankful the whole pregnancy process is a lot shorter than the teen years!

  1. That’s where I’m at right now. Pregnancy induced acne flare ups! It’s very frustrating because cleansing and treating it only helps a little. Nothing really makes it go away. Not the “pregnancy glow” I was hoping for!!!! lol
