Having long nail beds is a plus, so you don't actually have to have long nails for that long-nail look. I'm a very active gardener and homemaker, and have to use cotton gloves under nitrile waterproof gloves to have any nails and soft hand skin. For me, a hand cream with either an alpha hydroxy or a lipid component is essential care under those cotton goves.
