Dr. Perricone FAQ’s

istock_questionkey

The following are some of the questions I am asked most often by people like you – women and men, young and old – about their skin. I hope you find this helpful.

Q. How do I treat crow’s feet?

A. Crow’s feet are the deep lines that radiate outward from the corners of your eyes. They come with age, an are caused by years of smiling and squinting – so be sure to wear sunglasses whenever you are outdoors!

Crow’s feet are difficult to eliminate – but there are various treatment options, I have found patients respond well to a topical application of alpha lipoic acid, DMAE and Vitamin C ester, followed by topical application of creams containing phosphatidyl choline.

Q. I am plagued with large pores. Is there anything I can do?

A. Eating pro-inflammatory foods can cause a dysfunction in the sebaceous glands , which in turn can make your pores appear larger. The low glycemic anti-inflammatory diet is critical to improving the appearance of large pores. In addition, I recommend that you wash your skin twice a day with a cleanser formulated for oily skin. It is particularly important that your moisturizers and suncreens be non-greasy and oil-free as well.

Q. The area around my eyes seem to be prone to puffiness, primarily under the eye. What do you suggest I do?

A. Swelling around the eyes is commonly known as edema, and is often caused by systemic inflammation showing up in the face. My recommendation is to follow the anti-inflammatory diet and watch your salt and alcohol intake. Make sure you drink plenty of water . I can assure you that drinking water will help decrease it – as long as you are not using the water to wash down a bag of potato chips!

  1. I have another question!
In your videos you mention that you have seen great lifting results with DMAE and micro stimulation.
Which of your products would be the best to use directly before micro stimulation?

  2. Help! Can Dr. P treat melasma?

  3. Hello,
I read the Acne prescription and I’ve been following the anti-inflammatory diet. I have a couple of questions which are not addressed in the book:

    1) what are the pros and cons of adapalene topic solution (such as Differin)?

    2) what are your recommendations about other cereals such as rye kamut, spelt. Are these pro- or anti-inflammatory?

Thank you very much, it’s been very helpful to read you.

    Katherine
