Is Your Skin Thirsty?

Perricone MD offers a popular ’skin drink’ - Super Berry Powder With Acai. Many of my patients ask – if considering a similar type of skin drink, what should I look for?
Most importantly when it comes to ‘skin drinks’ make sure that they are rich in plant-based, natural antioxidants and essential fatty acids. These bolster an anti-inflammatory diet caused by free radicals and also keep the skin soft and supple.
Do read labels. Many drinks contain sweeteners such as sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Ingredients such as these will increase skin wrinkling and give you the opposite effect. Also make sure there are NO preservatives, especially sodium benzoate. The natural vitamin C ester found in fruits is helpful!
As an active researcher, I welcome your comments and suggestions.

Keeping well hydrated in southern California is a serious challenge.I use a bottled water that has electrolytes (calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and potassium bicarbonate)and no sodium, carbs, proteins or fat.The electrolytes keep me from reaching for a caffeinated drink in the afternoon, but apparently don’t fulfill the antioxidant needs.I need to try SBP w/Acai!
