According to the website www.glycemicindex.com, the glycemic index is a ranking of carbohydrates based on their immediate effect on blood glucose (sugar) levels. It compares foods gram for gram of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates that break down quickly during digestion have the highest glycemic indexes. Carbohydrates that break down slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the bloodstream, have low glycemic indexes. “There are numerous books and websites available that list glycemic values for all catergories of food and beverages, including: www.glycemicindex.com. To prevent weight gain and/or lose the unwanted weight, we need to replace sugary and starchy foods and bevargaes with high-quality protein and low-glycemic fruits nad vegatable, which have little effect on our blood sugar and insulin levels.

  1. I heard that if you bake an apple (spray with pam butter flavor) and cover it with cinnamon that that is better than eating a raw apple. You microwave it till it is soft.. One of my nurses in my recent hospital stay said heating the apple converts a lot of the glycemic potential into fiber and slows the response in the blood stream.

I’m wondering if this is hooey… or if there is some fact to this. She says the same thing with toasting bread… Now, I do believe that the Ezekiel 14:9 (aka the bible “sprouted whole grain” bread.. or any sprouted grain bread has a very slow glycemic effect as well.

Have you heard of this? THANK YOU!

  2. I am new to the Perricone theories but I have tried Rx2 and I am amazed how much calmer my skin has become.
I am now looking a the diet theories and I have hit a problem.
Is there ever any time that high glycemic foods are acceptable on the Perricone system? I am in training as an endurance athlete, consequently, I frequently use very high glycemic drinks before and during training.
If I am only adding what I am burning in training is this still likely to result in an inflammatory response?
I would be very grateful for any advise as this is of great concern to me. I am very keen to keep in top health for as long as possible!
