Dear Jenna,

Thanks for your question. Astaxanthin is a very powerful antioxidant. It helps to protect your cells from damage caused by free radical damage. While this supplement is not specifically for acne, it can certainly maintain the health of your skin. Dr. Perricone does include this supplement in his Skin and Total Body supplements, which is a supplement program geared to help improve the appearance of the skin while also helping hair, joints, nails and bones.

I hope this helps.

Dear Dr Perricone,

Since I've been seeing bits here and there about your anti inflammation diet, it's been in the back of my mind. Honestly, I tend to scoff at specialized "diet" regimens as I'm a believer in just eating food you enjoy in moderation, always trying to select foods that are organic, locally-raised and non-processed. I'm not one to obsess over diet, as I feel obsessions can be just as bad as what one might eat. BUT... I have to say... I may have been converted overnight!

Lately, probably due to some recent birthday over-indulgences, I've been feeling bloated and uncomfortable and just seemed heavier than usual. Well, last night I went out for sushi. I had salmon, tuna, yellow tail, miso soup with tofu and spinach and a few glasses of green tea, along with several glasses of water. I was most shocked when I woke up this morning and realized that my waist looked and felt at least six inches smaller.

So, with my shocking realization that you might really have something valid here, I believe I'll be going out to buy a few good books about this anti inflammation diet (but let's call it a lifestyle, rather than a "diet"). I used to eat a lot more cold-water fish but over the past year, due to financial constrictions, I had cut back. I'm going to find a way to add more fish back into my diet. I just feel so much better!!

Just thought I'd let you know... you have another fan.

Hi, I read your book on acne and was wondering if Astaxanthin would help my skin? I took spirulina but my face broke out in cystic acne which I think is from the iodine content.
Is Astaxanthin suited for people with acne? I'm too young for the anti-wrinkle benefits.
