Please Pass the Protein

Protein is the most important part of your anti-inflammatory diet. Without it, the body could not repair itself or function. Unfortunately, the average American diet rarely contains protein in sufficient quantity to maintain and repair cell and skin health.

Always eat your protein first, and enjoy your fruits at the end of the meal to avoid any possible negative effects on blood sugar.  An added bonus — protein will help suppress your appetite and keep you from overeating.

Remember this: we cannot store protein in our bodies. To keep our face and body firm, toned, lithe, and supple, eat a fresh supply of high quality protein every day.  That’s three meals a day and two snacks.

Recommended Proteins include:

  • Fish – wild Alaskan salmon is the best choice
  • Shellfish
  • Free range poultry
  • Omega 3 organic eggs from free range chickens
  • Tofu
  • Low fat dairy products, esp. yogurt and kefir

  2. You recommend dairy and nuts as part of your plans but these cause many people to break out. I am surprised that you did not address this in your books. I broke out badly after the 3 day plan

  3. For protein in the morning, is it ok to buy the egg beaters 100% egg whites and combine this with one omega 3 egg and fry this in a tiny bit of butter?

    Thanks!

  4. The egg really gets the short end of the stick sometimes. Eggs, especially the yolks, are extremely beneficial for you. In fact, the fatty acids in the yolks are monounsaturated fats; this is the same kind of fat found in olive oil. And, the lecithin and choline in the yolks help protect brain tissue from aging and help your liver actually break down cholesterol.

To date, there is not one published study that proves that eggs raise cholesterol. One study was done with powdered egg yolks that were oxidized, and naturally this raised people’s cholesterol. But ultimately, it’s the flour-based, processed foods that ultimately raise cholesterol and triglycerides: pasta, breads, crackers, doughnuts, cakes, and cookies—along with sugar, trans fats, fried foods, and hydrogenated vegetable oils. Ironically there is no connection between eating cholesterol-rich foods and increased blood cholesterol levels.

The lesson? Eat whole foods with a short shelf-life and you’ll be healthy forever. So to answer your question, yes, you can mix the Egg Beaters with one real egg and cook it in butter, or you can just have 2 whole eggs cooked in butter.

    Enjoy!

  5. Hello,

I have tried to find the answer to my question on your site but have failed. I am curious just how much protein a person shouls aim for everyday? Does it vary from women to men, or as you age? I am a 20yr. old female.

    thanks.
