Counting down my top 10 super supplements:
Super Supplement #10: Dimethlaminoethanol (DMAE)
DMAE is a naturally occurring nutritional substance with powerful anti-inflammatory properties. DMAE is important in the production of neurotransmitters, especially acetylcholine, which is essential in the communication from one nerve to another and between nerves and muscles. In order for your muscles to contract, the message must be sent from your nerves to your muscles via acetylcholine. DMAE also has membrane stabilizing effects and can also help reduce body fat, most likely from its activity as a precursor to acetylcholine as well as its anti-inflammatory activity. Taking DMAE as a supplement will not only improve your cognitive function, it will help increase skin firmness and muscle tone.
DOSAGE RECOMMENDATION: My recommended dose is 50 to 100 milligrams per day. For certain therapeutic uses, such as lowering cholesterol, larger doses may be recommended. As always consult your physician.
DMAE Tips:
DMAE is a naturally occurring nutritional substance with powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
DMAE also has membrane stabilizing effects and can also help reduce body fat, most likely from its activity as a precursor to acetylcholine as well as its anti-inflammatory activity.
Taking DMAE as a supplement will not only improve your cognitive function, it will help increase skin firmness, muscle tone, and is a wrinkle cure.
For optimum health, beauty and weight loss benefits, I recommend eating fish rich in DMAE, taking DMAE supplements as well as applying a topical lotion containing DMAE to face, neck and body.
It is thought that DMAE can make epilepsy and bipolar depression worse; thus, it is advised that those with these health problems avoid DMAE.
DMAE can also be over-stimulating for some people, perhaps causing muscle tension or insomnia, so individuals experiencing such difficulties are advised to discontinue use of DMAE.
Take with meals for optimum effect.
I would like to start your weight loss program. In reading the list of ingredients for your weight Loss Management supplements, I noticed that in the Herbal Actives Blend it had chamomile flower in it.People with allergies to plants of the Asteraceae family (ragweed, aster, and chrysanthemum) should avoid use of oral supplements with Chamomile because they may cause a reaction of bronchial restriction. There are many people out there with ragweed allergies.
Is it possible for you to reconsider including chamomile in your product? Or can you consider having the herb part of your supplement separate. I hate to have to miss out on using your products.
Hi! Dr. Perricone, Thank you so much for starting such valuable sessions with us like these. Thank you for sharing your passion and lifetime research with us ! I hope more people can get the benefit of this special opportunity that you are offering.
Before I ask my question to you, please allow me to send applause to all those 150 passengers and their 5 crew members on the US Airways which had an emergency landing in the Hudson River for their bravery and safe escape, this afternoon! Thank God every one is safe. It was such a cold day in New York with pretty big snow in the morning. Things could be much worse.
I clicked those three supplements under your post, Perricone MD Health & Weight Management, Super Anti- Oxidant, Skin & total Body, each of them and checked; Let me call these supplements as ” the big box” to make it easy for this post.
Would you please explain which would be better for who or what purpose, basically how are they different and guide us a little more so we know what to choose.
Also, would you recommend for beginners who start this diet newly to slowly start with individual supplements rather starting those big packs ? Or would you recommend even beginners to get one of those big boxes first? If so, regarding the dose of each pack, would you say same doses are for both men and women whether she maybe 5 feet and 2 inch with a weight like 13o pound and he maybe 6 feet 1 inch with weight like 235 pound (as an example.)?
Also, if we get one of those big boxes, do we still need to get other individual supplements?
I have reasons asking these questions. But that story might make this comment too long, so maybe someday, some other time… but for now, I will appreciate your comments on these questions very much!
P.S. I got my second order yesterday already! Thanks to you, even if it was a very cold day I felt so good, walking around here and there, busy Manhattan. I think it’s because of Super berry with Acai, my first glutamine and my Omega-3 fish oil I normally take. ^^ ( I have been taking Omega- 3 fish oil for many years, on and off sometimes, of course, but basically, continued.) Does glutamine work quickly like how I felt today ? I mean, at least, in terms of clarity of mind or feeling. I don’t know whether glutamine helped or not but I felt really good, taking all those three together. I liked all those topical stuff I got this time as well. i saw the enclosed catalogue. It gave me better idea what to choose in terms of topical stuff. I was a little confused what to get for my self or my daughter until now. I have been looking for right stuff for each of us only through your web site until now. My daughter loved that lip treatment from the olive oil line and we liked the facial wash as well. I liked that neck cream too. I will share more of my thought when I get to use the rest of my other stuff that I got this time later. Thank you for that promotion offering olive oil line duo free when we spend over 200$ and “Neck Cream ” thing, too. ^^
Dear Melody,
Thank you for bringing our attention to this. I think your concern is important. I am sure Dr.Perricone appreciates your comments on this as well. Also I am sure that either he and his team already thought over this or they would try to accommodate these concerns somehow in a near future. However, I guess it will take some time for them to make any changes even if they might want to if they think this is important concern. Mean time I don’t want you or any other people who see your post or who has allergy concerns to be discouraged and delay or stop anti-inflammatory diet, entirely. This is the reason why I am writing to you today.
If anyone who has allergy concerns or any kinds of medical issues should consult with their doctors first when they start any kinds of dramatic diet changes or in taking supplements, as Dr.Perricone repeatedly advises us to. I think especially people who have issues with contra indications with ingredients in supplements in which they are interested should do that.
However, at the same time, I believe these people who have allergies, diabetes or many other different medical issues are actually the ones who need an anti-inflammatory diet more than anyone else! I believe a lot of allergies, even a lot of atopic dermatitis and with many other even matured illness that we are so familiar with including cancer are due to unbalanced immune system in cellular level, in deep down. We see even infants and young children suffer with allergies or atopic dermatitis. I do believe even their mother’s diet before and during pregnancy affects those children. What we eat is so important and affects our immune system and overall health so much. I believe that anti-inflammatory diet holds one of those keys to put our body’s balance back, to keep our body in the optimum environment, and to have our immune system even on a cellular level to find its balance from the cellular level — so that every component in our body can work its own role efficiently. I think Dr.Perricone has right approach for this.
I have many more thoughts and would like to share more regarding this with all of you but as my comments get always too long so I will stop here. ^ ^
If I were you and have issues with certain particular ingredients from what Dr.Perricone recommend, I wouldn’t just give up from the beginning but would start with individual supplements which you feel comfortable with first (he recommends many excellent and important individual supplements like his posts in this blog.) and still follow his guidance in his anti-inflammatory diet. Just give careful consideration to your particular medical situation. (Having said this, Doctors should be more open minded and be involved with their patient’s wish to try an anti-inflammatory diet and help them by giving close monitoring.)
Thank you. I hope you or anyone from the web site didn’t mind I commented on this. I wish all of you all the best.
Minkyong,
NYC
Dear Melody,
Thank you for your comments about the ingredients in our Weight Management supplements, and thank you Minkyong for your helpful response. We understand your concern about plant allergies and want you to know that your comments and suggestion have been passed on to the appropriate personnel for consideration. We certainly would not want you to miss out on the many benefits of Dr. Perricone’s supplement program! In the meantime, you may alternately ommit taking the Perricone Prescription Super Antioxidant Formula pill from each packet, since that is the pill that contains the Chamomile ingredient, or if possible, you may purchase supplements that are in the Weight Management supplements separately on your own that do not contain Chamomile.
I hope this helps.
