Q: Last year I changed my skin care regimen to include a retinol product. This
caused some damage to my skin, leaving spots of pigmentation on my checks, as well as a brownish scar. What can I do?
A: It sounds as if this product may have caused a condition known as post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Try a skin care regimen that includes products containing natural anti-inflammatories, such as alpha lipoic acid or pycnogenol. Further, toner pads containing the powerful anti-inflammatory DMAE should help relieve this condition. Alpha hydroxy acid creams can also help to even out skin tone.
i just tried to use perricone MD eye area contour which has both alphalipioc acid, and dmae to gether wit neuropeptides. however it’s been 2 days that my face is extreemly dry and this morning i woke up and look 10 years older. my skin had become extreemly dry and wrinkles that should appear in 10 years arrived overnight. i applied the eye contour and the day cream. my face burnt like it was sprayed with acid. I could not stand it so i washed my face. at night before i sleep i tried the night cream from prricone md but experienced the same burning sensation. I put some hydrocortisone cream all over my face. i am not sure what kind of surprise i’ll get tomorrow morning when I wake up. pls help. i purchased this product to look younger and not like my mom.
btw. I’m 39 had no wrinkles on my area till this morning..
Dear Laury,
I regret hearing of your recent experience with Dr. Perricone’s products. I would like you to know that this is not a typical experience with the products.
I would like to begin by saying that these products are very active. I would strongly recommend cutting back a little on usage. Were you applying a moisturizer over the Eye Area Contour and your day and night treatments? I ask because Dr. Perricone’s treatment products are not necessarily hydrating, but rather anti-aging, so it is very important to us a good hydrating moisturizer over your treatment products to keep the skin moisturized.
It seems that your skin is lacking hydration. I would recommend that you stop applying your treatment products for a few days until your skin has returned to normal. In the meantime, you can continue applying the hydrocortisone cream any a good hydrating moisturizer to rehydrate your skin. Then, you can slowly begin back up again with your treatment products, using them only every other day at first, and on the days when you are not applying the Perricone product line, just moisturize your skin.
So, cut back on the products and start them off a little bit slower while always following with a moisturizer, and you should start to see your skin improve.
I hope this information is helpful.
I am 63 and struggling with sagging skin and wrinkles around my eyes…can I use your alpha-lipoic face firming activator on my eyes as well as my face.
Have not yet used any of your products but impressed with your online articles and natural approach to aging.
Kind of looking for a one product fits all approach…thank you for your time
