Dr. Perricone’s Top 10 Super Supplements – #5 – Acetyl L-Carnitine
Super Supplement #5: Acetyl L-Carnitine
Like carnitine, acetyl-l-carnitine improves mitochondrial function, but to an even greater degree – because it can pass through the mitochondrial membrane. And like carnitine, acetyl-l-carnitine functions best when there is adequate dietary intake of omega-3 essential fatty acids. Both forms of carnitine are important in a weight loss regimen because they act as natural anti-inflammatories, they aid in transportation of fats into the mitochondria to be burned. They also enhance the sensitivity of insulin receptors, helping to decrease blood sugar and circulating levels of insulin. As we have learned, high levels of insulin are inflammatory and ‘lock’ our body fat in place.
DOSAGE RECOMMENDATION: 500 milligrams per day; however, individuals on a weight loss program may take up to 1500 milligrams of acetyl-carnitine daily.
Acetyl-l-Carnitine tips:
Carnitine and acetyl-l-carnitine are not to be used by people with bipolar disease (manic depression) or those who are susceptible to seizures (epilepsy) unless recommended by their physician.
Do not take acetyl-l-carnitine after 3 PM to prevent any difficulties with sleeping.
Exercise naturally increases our levels of acetyl-l-carnitine, however, if we are obese, over thirty, or have other health problems, it will not raise them to therapeutic levels; therefore supplementation is necessary.
Acetyl-l-carnitine may be taken with or without food.
For better utilization of fat for energy take omega 3 fish oil with carnitine.

Perricone MD Health & Weight Management

Hello, Dr.Perricone.
What a historical day it is!
I received my order of Health & Weight Management dietary supplement this afternoon with Neuropeptide facial cream (Thanks! ^_^). I am excited to start taking these supplements and want to try them as soon as possible. However, before I start, I really would like to know which pill is which in the packet – especially after reading your post about how some people shouldn’t take the Acetyl-l-Carnitine. I personally don’t have a problem with ingredients but I think it will be nice if we all know which is which so some people who might have issues with a particular pill can still have a flexibility to take your supplements by just simply eliminating that particular pill that they have a concern with. Of course, taking the pills all at once as you intended would be ideal, but I think it would be helpful for us to know which pill is which.
Plus, If I come to like this box of supplements I would want to recommend this to some people that I know in abroad. They will also want to know which is which. Also if they like these supplements, they would want to recommend it to some of their friends as well. Who knows if some of them might have issues you mentioned on the post or other particular ingredient ?
Each packet has two compartments. The first one has three soft gels, colored black, gold and small red. The second one has 1 green caplet and 4 white capsules. 2 of those white capsules were smaller than the other two. One of the smaller capsules has some pink specs and the other one doesn’t. Now the other two big white capsules are almost identical. I think these two would be difficult for you to tell us which one is which. But I am sure the other 6 pills can be identified. Would you please tell me which one is which? I think I can guess most of them but as you know, I shouldn’t just guess! I, already, tried to call customer service to ask this same question, not to bother you, ( this one simple question saying “can you help me on this, I would like to know which pill is which?) and it seemed like she didn’t like my question, unfortunately ………..I feel it’s important for me to know which pill is which especially when I am taking 8 pills each time, three times a day and for 30 days continuously.
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Minkyong
Dr. Perricone! I got a good news! Now I know the answer of my above question!!!
Your customer service called me with the information I wanted! It was good that I left both of my home and cell phone number to the customer service asking to reach me out if she gets information. I am very happy about this! Thank you so much!!! I didn’t get into the story involved with my previous experience with your supplements before when I asked you about this information yesterday. But, actually, long ago, I had bought one big box similar like this Health & Weight Management box. I don’t know what its name was and I think you had only one of them, back then. It had a lot of multi pills in each packet just like this Health & Weight Management dietary supplement. (It was not for weight management.) Even at that time I really wished which pills were which. I won’t get into why—it’s a long story—maybe some other time, some other day…. Back then, there were no web site, I think, and of course no daily blog! ^-^ Basically no one could give me any information. I wished I would have a little flexibility in terms of taking all those pills continuously, back then as well. So now I guess you can guess why I wanted to know this time again and how much I am glad about this.
For the information for other people who had same questions like me, Here I have a summery which I just simply combined with the information I got from the customer service and the information written on Health & Weight Management Dietary Supplement box, right under where directions to take;
In one packet of this Health & Weight Management dietary supplement, there are 8 pills which are;
* 1 black large soft gel is CLA (Conjugated Linoletic Acid)
* 1 yellowish gold color soft gel is Evening Primrose Oil
* 1 red small soft gel is Co-Q 10
* 1 dark green caplet is Super Antioxidant Formula. ( I guess this is the one which has herbal blend that Melody commented about before.)
* 1 small solid white capsule is Acetyl L – Carnitine. (This is the one related with Dr. Perricone’s this recent post on Jan.19th. Pls read it.)
* 1 small white capsule with red specs is DMAE
* 1 large yellowish capsule is Tyrosine & Alpha-Lipoic Acid
* 1 large White capsule is L-Carnitine.
As to me, both two large capsules looks same, both same white color. But I am happy with the information I got.
(Please let us know if the above information is wrong in any event.)
I hope this will clarify some little concerns here and there while we were learning these supplements from you through this blog until now. I hope a lot of people will feel much more comfortable getting this big box now, “Health & Weight Management dietary supplements’! I am excited to try these supplements! ^_^!!!
I remember you had L-Tyrosine as an individual supplement. It was a long time ago. I guess you don’t have it anymore as an individual supplement….too bad….( Well, I guess you might have even better one. ^-^) A sales lady of your products in Saks Fifth Avenue told me about that supplement, L-Tyrosine. I was getting some supplements and with some topical products of yours back then. I asked her what other supplements they carry besides the supplements I was getting then. She showed me that L-Tyrosine supplement. I bought it, just with my curiosity, just to test it out.^-^ (That’s me! ^-^) I tried sometimes, once a while when I get stressed,:) as she suggested. That was really good! I still kept that empty bottle until now in my drawer with my other supplements. Because I thought it was a kind of unique and advanced back then. I guess you would tell us more about Tyrosine so I won’t get into what she told me about it.
Thank you so much , Dr. Perricone, always.
Minkyong. ^_^
